Reflexology

Reflexology is a form of complementary' medicine which involves a method of therapy using massage to reflex areas found in the feet and the hands. Most commonly, the feet are used as the areas to be treated. Reflexologists work holistically with their clients and aim to work conventional medicine to promote better health for their clients.

In the feet, there are reflex areas/zones corresponding to all the parts of the body and these areas are arranged in such a way as to form a map of the body in the feet. Applying pressure to specific reflex areas is believed to stimulate natural healing/balance in the corresponding part of the body.

The method has been used for several thousands of years and is known to have been practised in a similar manner by the Chinese and the Egyptians.

Reflexology does not claim to be a 'cure-all' but many people have found they have been helped by reflexology. Surveys and small studies have shown that Reflexology reduces symptoms of stress and eases symptoms such as headaches, backaches, insomnia and irritable bowel.

Many people have used Reflexology to help with infertility and some claim to becoming pregnant following reflexology treatments. Unfortunately research based evidence has proved inconclusive, however it cannot be disputed that reducing stress levels and easing the 'fight flight' response in the body helps to calm hormones and creates balance in the body.
