Pride parades/marches/ events festivals for the LGBT community are events celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) culture and pride. The events may also serve as demonstrations for legal rights such as same-sex marriage. Here are 8 of the largest Pride events from around the globe.

New York City

NYC Pride takes place annually during the month of June. This massive LGBT festival is held across NYC's five boroughs, and it is usually attended by at least two million people. The event reaches its zenith on the last Sunday in June with the Pride March. This massive parade features every imaginable aspect of LGBT culture.

Sao Paulo

This Brazilian city is host to what may be the world's largest Pride event. The attendance peaked in 2006, when more than three million people from around the world descended on the city to party. The celebration includes the traditional parade floats, but it is infused with a distinct Brazilian flavor. The exhilarating music and festive dancing simply can't be beat. The event also receives a great deal of support from the community. Politicians and other important cultural figures often attend.


Amsterdam has always been a city willing to balk convention. It's no wonder, then, that it throws a pretty incredible Pride Parade. The floats don't travel down streets like other parades. They float down the Amsterdam canals in a colorful procession of LGBT spirit. This Pride festival takes fun in the sun to a whole new level. The Tel Aviv Pride festival is held on the Hilton Beach, which has long been a seaside escape for the LGBT community. Partygoers are treated to a variety of entertainment, from cutting edge DJs to popular Israeli performing artists.

San Francisco

No list of Pride events would be complete without a nod to San Francisco, one of the most inclusive cities in the country. Held in the Castro district, this annual parade features everything from dancing to community theater productions.


The biggest Canadian Pride event is held annually in Toronto. The summertime event stretches from the intersection of Bloor Street and Church Street to Yonge-Dundas Square. Expect everything from colorful floats to musical celebrations.


The annual Madrid Gay Pride event features open air concerts, art, parties, performances, and much more. It is held in the neighborhood of Chueca, and the parade itself finishes at Puerta de Alcalá. The festivities also include a summit, where prominent activists come together to discuss important issues facing the LGBT community.

Other than the musical performers, this event typically involves all night dance parties, enormous floats, and the rainbow colored costumes synonymous with Pride.
