Pregnancy and birth can be a vulnerable time - even more so if the care received is framed in ways that are misgendering, as many trans and non-binary parents experience. Dr Matthew Cull, (TCD), Dr Jules Holroyd (University of Sheffield), and Professor Fiona Woollard (University of Southampton) have been working on a project about how to use gender inclusive language well. They argue it requires careful use of a range of linguistic strategies - there is no simple ‘recipe’ to follow, but a set of goals and considerations that can guide us.
