A.I. Confidential: A Platform for Recipients to Share their Stories of Sperm Donation

Issues of accessibility and choice (amongst others) at private fertility clinics have resulted in the emergence of an alternative sperm donation route, which typically takes place online, connecting sperm donors and recipients via social media or ‘connection websites’, such as PrideAngel.

Issues of accessibility and choice (amongst others) at private fertility clinics have resulted in the emergence of an alternative sperm donation route, which typically takes place online, connecting sperm donors and recipients via social media or ‘connection websites’, such as PrideAngel. For many people embarking on their donor conception journey, it is a venture into the unknown. While a non-clinical route can offer both recipients and donors more choice in their donating arrangements or the shape of their family, it also poses some challenges - from finding a donor to choosing a mode of conception and working out the legal implications for all involved - and some recipients find themselves feeling confused or isolated and alone.

A.I. Confidential (www.aiconfidential.co.uk) has been created by Leeds Beckett University to give recipients the chance to share their stories. It is a platform for those at any stage of their conception journey to have their voice heard. This may be to share the news of a successful pregnancy and the birth of a child or to highlight any obstacles or issues that may have been faced along the way. The aim of the site is to give contributors the opportunity to create a record of perhaps the most meaningful time in their life, and by sharing their experiences, to help someone else who may be starting out on their path to have a child by donor conception.

If you’d like to share your story, it couldn’t be simpler to upload it to the site. Click on the link to Share your Story and then write about your experiences in the box. Once you have submitted it, we will make sure that there is no identifying information or abusive content to maintain anonymity and to keep all contributors safe and then it will be uploaded to the Contributed Stories page. If you’d like detailed information about the project, you can find out all about what its aims are and how the data will be used under the FAQs. For specific questions or to get in touch with us about being interviewed about your experiences, you can do so using our Contact page. We look forward to hearing from you!
