Female Fertility Kit
FSH
A womans fertility starts to decline after the age of 30. Rising levels of the hormone FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) tend to be associated with reduced fertility. This test is especially useful for women with irregular periods and for women over the age of 30. 2 tests are included and if both tests are positive it is an indicator of reduced fertility. A negative test result is good news but is not a guarantee of fertility. A positive result suggests fertility is reduced and we recommend that you see your doctor to discuss the results and perhaps have further tests.
It is recommended that this test is performed on the first morning urine as it contains the highests levels of FSH. Testing at any other time of the day may give false negative test results. Read all instructions carefully before performing the test.
Ovulation Tests
These help predict the time of ovulation and peak fertility. It is during this fertile time that pregnancy is most likely to occur. Ovulation is the release of an egg from the ovary. In order for pregnancy to occur, the egg must be fertilised by the sperm within 24 hours after its release. Immediately prior to ovulation , the body produces a large amount of luteinizing hormone (LH) which triggers the release of the egg from the ovary. This 'LH' surge usually takes place mid-cycle. There are 6 ultra sensivitive 20mIU ovulation tests contained within each insemination kit, one test is performed daily mid-cycle, in order to detect the correct day of ovulation.
Digital Basal Body Thermometer
A basal thermometer is an ultra sensitive thermometer that tracks your body’s minutest temperature shift. A basal body temperature (BBT) thermometer is often used by women to chart their basal body temperature chart and hence predict their fertile period or ovulation. There are various kinds of BBT thermometers available but a digital basal thermometer is your best bet. Most basal thermometers come with a blank basal body temperature chart that you can use. You can also download a our free basal body temperature chart to use.
Charting basal body temperature
Charting your basal body temperature involves taking your temperature first thing in the morning at the same time and plotting onto a chart. You are looking for the temperature to peak by approx. 0.4 degrees Fahrenheit after ovulation.
- Take your temperature first thing in the morning before you get out of bed.
- Leave the thermometer at your bedside within easy reach.
- Try to take your temperature at the same time each day, within half an hour if possible.
- You should take your basal body temperature after having at least 5 hours sleep.
- Plot your temperature on the chart each day, but refrain from reading too much into small changes.
- Look for a temperature shift of at least 0.4 degrees over a 48 hour period to indicate ovulation.
- This shift should be higher than the highest temperature in the previous 6 days.
- Charting for several months will give a clearer idea of your ovulation time.
- If your temperature remains higher for 18 days after ovulation, then you should test for pregnancy.
